The classic solitaire, deal for deal
FreeCell
Eight cascades, four free cells, four home cells and the original 32,000 numbered deals. Free, no sign-in, plays in the browser.
How to play
- The goal. Move all 52 cards to the four home cells at the top right, one suit each, from Ace up to King.
- Moving cards. Click a card, then click where it should go; the game works out how many cards of the run travel. You can also drag a run, double-click a card to send it home (or to a free cell), and right-click any card to peek at it.
- Building. In the eight cascades, cards go down by one rank in alternating colours: a red 7 on a black 8. Any card may start an empty cascade. Each free cell at the top left holds one card of any kind.
- Supermoves. A run of cards moves at once only when the free cells and empty cascades could shuffle it card by card: (empty free cells + 1) × 2 for every empty cascade, halved when the run is moving into an empty cascade.
- Automatic play. After every move, cards that can never be needed again fly to their home cells on their own: aces and twos always, other cards once both opposite-colour cards one rank lower are already home.
- Winning and losing. When the last card reaches home the king smiles and you are asked whether to deal again. When no move is left the game is lost; starting a new game part-way through asks whether you want to resign, and a resignation counts as a loss.
What is replicated
- The 32,000 numbered deals, generated with the original algorithm, so game #617 is the same game #617 and #11982 is still the one that cannot be won.
- The two special deals: -1 buries the aces, -2 exposes them.
- Eight cascades, four free cells, four home cells, 71 × 96 cards, green table.
- Click-then-click movement; the game decides how many cards travel.
- The supermove limit and the auto-play to the home cells.
- The king between the cell groups who looks towards your pointer, smiles when you win and frowns when you lose.
- Game, Select Game, Statistics and Options on the Game menu with F2, F3, F4 and F5; Undo with Ctrl+Z.
- Statistics: this session, totals, win and loss streaks, the current streak; special deals do not count.
- "Do you want to resign this game?" before a new deal replaces a game in progress.
- The status bar with Cards Left and the game number.
- Ctrl+Shift+F10 opens the "User-Friendly User Interface" dialog: Abort wins, Retry loses, Ignore cancels.
- Exit closes the window onto a little desktop; click the icon to reopen it.

Questions
What are FreeCell game numbers?
Every deal has a number from 1 to 32000. The same number always produces the same layout, generated with the same algorithm as the classic numbered deals, so game #617 here is the game #617 you remember. Use Game, Select Game (F3) to pick one, or open a link such as freecell.skillsafe.ai/#617.
Is every FreeCell deal solvable?
Of the 32,000 classic deals, only game #11982 has no solution; every other numbered deal can be won. The special deal -1 is a joke that buries the aces, and -2 exposes them so it wins itself.
How many cards can I move at once?
A run of cards can move as one supermove when the free cells and empty cascades could shuffle it card by card: (empty free cells + 1) multiplied by 2 for each empty cascade. Moving into an empty cascade halves that, because the destination no longer counts. Four empty cells and no empty cascade let you move five cards.
Why do cards fly to the home cells by themselves?
After each of your moves the game sends home any card that can never be needed again: aces and twos always, and any other card once both opposite-colour cards one rank lower are already home. It is the same rule the Windows version used.
What are games -1 and -2?
Two special deals kept from the Windows version as an in-joke. Game -1 lays every card out in order with the aces buried under the kings, and game -2 lays them out the other way round so one move wins the game. Neither counts in the statistics.
